What is the DMBA?
The Durham Mountain Biking Association is a non-profit association whose mission is to create, enhance and preserve trail opportunities for mountain bikers in Durham Region. We formed in the fall of 2005 to address the need for a group advocating for mountain bikers in the Durham Region.
What does the DMBA do?
Advocacy
Primarily DMBA advocates for mountain bikers in the Durham Region. When a public land owner has kicked us off their land, we fight to get our access back. When there is a threat of mountain biking losing access to riding opportunities we fight to keep access. When untruth is being spread about mountain biking (e.g. we cause erosion) we are there to help spread truth and educate those who don’t know the facts. When a possibility of gaining access to land comes up we are there to help the land owner understand mountain biking so we can have another place to ride.
Trail Work
We also have a focus on trail work. We layout and build new trails. We also repair and maintain existing trails. Last year we were a big part of the 1.5km of new trail in Glen Major. There will be more trail work this year.
Education
We teach others that are new to the sport how to ride. Kids and adults alike that are new to the sport want to learn how to ride. We teach them those skills, and while were at it we teach them how to be conscientious and courteous riders who give mountain bikers a good name.
Ride
Since we are an association of mountain bikers, naturally we ride. We host regular group rides throughout the year at Glen Major and Durham Forest of varying levels. We also host a few road trips each year to other riding spots.
