Trail Building Workshop
Friday May 28, 6-9pm @ The Zehr’s Community Room – 323 Toronto Street South, Uxbridge
Come and take part in the IMBA trail building workshop. Learn why mountain trails are being built to a sustainable standard and how we do this. Learn the specific guidelines that govern how we lay out sustainable trails and how we build these in the field. This workshop will allow participants to easily see the reasons behind the work we will be doing later that weekend. This workshop is not mandatory to participate in the build, but if you’ve been looking to take the next step in your understanding of trail building this is not to be missed.
Trail Build / Repair on Super Fly Alley
Saturday, May 29, 9am – 3pm & Sunday, May 30, 9am - noon
Location: The grassy clearing up the gravel road hill to the east of the Towers Parking Lot in Durham Forest
We are excited to announce that the DMBA, in cooperation with the LSRCA, will be re-routing some badly eroded sections on a great trail known as Super Fly Alley. This should breathe new life into this famous trail. If necessary, we will be finishing the work on Sunday. Bring your bikes for a ride afterwards.
If you are unable to stay for the entire build that’s perfectly fine. Put in whatever sweat equity you can.
Lunch
A lunch of BBQ hamburgers and drinks will be provided on Saturday. Lunch will not be provided on Sunday. Let us know if you have connections for burgers or drinks at a reduced price or even donated. We are also looking for someone to take care of organizing the food and BBQing lunch. If you’re good with a grill get in touch.
Donations Requested
In order to build one of the reroutes beyond a sustainable grade so as to keep the nature of the trail the same, we will require stone to armor the slope so that it doesn’t erode. We have looked at various types of rock but have decided the best bang for our buck would be to use a man made stone that is used for retaining walls. It is about one quarter the price of natural stone which would have cost us in excess of $2500. So we need to raise some money if we want to do this portion of the build. I’ll start it off with pledging $50. If you would like to contribute you can do so with the button below. If we raise more than we need we’ll put the excess towards purchasing some of our own trail building tools, as the club does not presently own any and we rely totally on the IMBA Tool Trailer to outfit our volunteers.
The DMBA has earned a reputation with the land manager (LSRCA) as being able to design quality sustainable trails and provide a strong volunteer force to build and repair. Please help us to continue to make Durham Forest an even better place to ride. Help us out for the day and have the enjoyment of riding trails which you helped to build.
