The DMBA does Georgia
This may sound like we’re trying to diversify into the wonderful world of the adult film industry, but it was actually something just as exciting; our spring break mountain bike getaway. On Friday March 12, Steve Snodden, Alan Kriss, Tom Hawks, Tom Ruppel, Kent Edmunds and Terry Sinclair loaded their gear into 2 vans and headed for the border. We traveled 16 hours south to the mountain bike capital of Georgia.
We had the good fortune to find a place called Mulberry Gap Mountain Bike Retreat. It was an awesome place to stay and I recommend it whole heartedly. Dianne, Ginny and Andrew from Mulberry Gap treated us so well that you felt like you were family. Luckily we were riding lots because Ginny’s cooking was excellent. Even as I write I find myself drooling on the keyboard as I think of her chicken and biscuits, and BBQ pork. Their was always more food than any of us could possibly eat. But rest assured we gave it our all. The endless climbing allowed us to burn the extra calories.

Southern hospitality is a wonderful thing and I felt very fortunate to be able to experience it first hand. When local mountain bikers heard that “the Canadians were in town” they were only too eager to grab their bikes and make some calls to other locals to come out for a ride. Mike Palmeri, the owner of Cartecay Bikes, was a great tour guide and kept our bikes in fine working order. We also met Rick Moon the president of Pinhoti Trail Association who took us on a couple of great rides and introduced us to some fine southern culture such as Unknown Hinson and Squidbillies. You’ve got to Google this and check them out. It was also a pleasure to meet and ride with Rob and Adam at Stanley Gap. Thanks Rob, for narrowly missing Steve as he attempted his Super Dave Osborne spill into the dirt. It would have been hard work carrying him out of the mountains. We had the good fortune of becoming friends with Bruce “The Mouth of the South” Dickman , who also toured us around some great trails and eagerly took us up some some nasty climbs. Remember paybacks are a bitch, Bruce. We’re already planning for when you come north to visit us.
We just happened to be staying at Mulberry Gap at the same time as four of the guys from Dirt Rag Magazine were. They were there to test some gear and write about mountain biking in Ellijay. They were terrific guys and we really appreciated being able to ride with them as they were being given the grand tour of some most excellent trails. This is the blog entry for Dirt Rag We rode all of the trails that they talk about. Check it out. There are even some pictures of us crazy Canucks.
Be on the lookout for information regarding next year’s March Break Trip. You won’t want to miss it!
