Another Great Year

The Durham Mountain Biking Association’s second annual Take a Kid Mountain Biking Day, an IMBA celebration event, was held on Saturday October 4, 2008 at Durham Forest. We had a terrific turnout - 144 kids plus their parents came out to discover some trails, enjoyed a ride in the woods, lunch & doughnuts, and took home loot bags of fun bike stuff, info on the forest and trail maps.

Our 25 volunteer ride leaders and sweepers took groups of 6 – 8 kids plus their parents on beginner, intermediate or advanced circuits of single and double track trails. Kids of all ages and abilities toured the trails safely, learned a few new trail riding techniques, and had lots of fun. It was a true mountain bike experience for the kids with some up hills and down, beautiful fall colours, sunshine & cool temperatures, and family & friends to share in the fun.

A community event like this could not have been successful without the kind support of our sponsors. The kids are already asking when they can ride again, which is a sure sign that the day was a success.

Here are some photos from this year’s event. Thanks to Mark and Avery Linford for the photography.

More about the celebration: IMBA’s International Take a Kid Mountain Biking Day celebrates the life of Jack Doub, an avid teenage mountain biker from North Carolina who had a true passion for the sport from an early age but passed away in 2002. Funding is provided by the Jack Doub Memorial Endowment. The event will take place each year on the first Saturday in October.
